Process
--- Herbal Tinctures ---
Herbal tinctures are concentrated extracts of herbs prepared by soaking plant materials in alcohol or other solvents such as glycerin or vinegar. Alcohol is the most commonly used solvent as it efficiently extracts and preserves the active ingredients present in the plants. Here are the steps:
  • Here are the steps:
    • Material Preparation: Dry plant materials (lavender, chamomile, marigold, and wormwood), vodka, sealed bottles.
    • Soaking: Place the plant materials in a glass bottle and add a sufficient amount of alcohol, ensuring that they are completely covered.
    • Steeping: Seal the bottle and let it steep in a cool place for 2-6 weeks, shaking it once daily to facilitate ingredient extraction.
    • Filtering: After complete steeping,  filter the liquid using filter paper to remove plant residues, obtaining a clear tincture.

--- Eco-printed fabric ---
Eco-printed fabric is a natural dyeing technique that involves imprinting the shapes and colors of plants, leaves, and flowers onto fabric.

Production Steps:
  1. Collect Plant Materials
    • Gather plants from nearby wildflowers and weeds.
    • Purchase fresh flowers from stores or accept leftover flowers from florists.
  2. Prepare Dye Solution
    • Soak all collected plant materials in an iron water solution.
  3. Arrange Plant Materials
    • Arrange soaked plant materials on the fabric, ensuring the pattern and layout meet design requirements.
  4. Press Plant Materials
    • Press the plant materials onto the fabric, ensuring tight contact to achieve the dyeing effect.
  5. Wrap and Bind
    • Wrap the fabric and securely bind it with ropes or other materials.
  6. Dyeing Process
    • Boil the wrapped fabric in a mixture containing alum.
    • Boiling allows the natural dyes from the plant materials to permeate the fabric, creating unique patterns and tones.
  7. Cooling and Washing
    • Let the fabric cool, then unwrap and thoroughly wash it to remove excess dye and plant residue.
  8. Drying and Finishing
    • Air-dry the washed fabric and, if necessary, iron and finish it to showcase the final printed effect.

Engaging in Eco-printing offers a certain therapeutic effect. The hands-on crafting process itself serves as a form of relaxation and meditation, allowing us to find a moment of tranquility amidst the fast-paced modern life.

Different plants, seasons, mordants, and treatment methods yield various colorful effects. Since each leaf and flower possesses its unique shape, color, and texture, every botanical print we create is unique, resulting in distinctive natural impressions. Eco-printing deepens our connection with nature and enables us to utilize local resources to craft unique artistic pieces.

--- Clay pool  ---
Clay Pool is a therapeutic pool crafted through a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques, drawing inspiration from ancient alchemical symbols and ecological aesthetics. The production process encompasses design, visualization, manual sculpting, and decoration, aiming to create a unique and healing artistic installation.

1. Research and Design:
Research into ancient alchemical symbols representing the four elements, referencing Éliphas Lévi's "The Wheel of Ezekiel" and images showcased in his work "Rituals of the Sanctum Regnum." Designing each symbol based on research, utilizing Midjourney for visualizing the overall design. Further refining the design in Photoshop to infuse ecological aesthetics.

2. Hand Carving Process Material Selection: Choose clay as the primary material.
  • Construct Base: Utilize a 3D workshop to cut a circular wooden board with a diameter of 70 centimeters as the stable base for the pool, and wrap it in tin foil to enhance its waterproofing.
  • Clay Fixation: Secure the clay onto the wooden board, ensuring structural stability.
  • Shape and Patterns: Delicately carve shapes and intricate patterns, pressing eco-textures from leaves and bark onto the moist clay.
  • Drying Phase: Wait for the clay to dry completely, ensuring no cracks are present.
  • Painting and Waterproofing: Use acrylic paint to color the pool and decorate it with twigs and stones for an eco-friendly effect, then apply a layer of waterproof coating to ensure  water resistance.

--- Video-making Process ---
Video creation involves combining ancient alchemical symbols, corresponding herbal images, and modern digital tools. The production process includes image processing, video editing, and projection techniques. Production Steps:Image Processing with Hydra
  • Input Symbols: Input the four elemental symbols designed into Hydra, experimenting with different visual effects.
  • Herbal Images: Input images of the selected herbs into Hydra (Lavender corresponds to the air element, Chamomile corresponds to the water element, Calendula corresponds to the fire element, Mugwort corresponds to the earth element), and adjust settings to enhance visual effects. The four elements correspond to their colors:
    • Fire: Red. Fire symbolizes vitality, passion, strength, and creativity.
    • Earth: Green. Earth symbolizes stability, reality, endurance, and security.
    • Air: Blue. Air symbolizes thought, freedom, change, and communication.
    • Water: Purple. Water symbolizes emotions, intuition, flow, and emotional connections.

Take air as an example (hydra output effect)
After Effects Processing: After Effects was used to mix the prescription symbols and herbal videos together to create the final video effect.
The videos represent AIR, EARTH, FIRE and WATER in that order (from left to right, top to bottom).

--- Instruction Book ---
The book provides detailed descriptions of the properties and prayers associated with the herbs corresponding to the four elements to help the audience understand and participate in the ritual.  The fabric used in the book is decorated with botanical prints, and plaster is applied around it, sprinkled with herbs, imbuing the guidebook with its own fragrance. It is bound with hemp rope.

--- AI music generation  ---
Drawing inspiration from the four elements (earth, air, fire, water), I create music using Stable Audio, enriching artworks with a multi-sensory experience. These musical backgrounds not only reflect the characteristics of the elements but also immerse the audience into a deeper sensory realm.
